Punjab Launches 5 Road Projects
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurates projects worth 22 billion rupees, electronic toll plazas to be established

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz launched five road projects under the Punjab Public-Private Partnership Authority. The projects include the Muridke-Narowal, Shakargarh-Narowal, Faisalabad Ring Road, Faisalabad-Sahianwala and Faisalabad-Samundri-Rajana roads.
These projects are expected to generate revenue of 22 billion rupees. Electronic toll plazas will be established on these roads, and private contractors will collect tolls through the National Highway Authority system and maintain the roads for seven years.
Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb briefed the Chief Minister on the projects. She said four more roads would also be handed over to private contractors, including the Bahawalpur-Yazman, Yazman-Ahmedpur Sharqia, Raiwind-Changa Manga and Gajju Mata-Kasur roads.
The Punjab Public-Private Partnership Authority is also undertaking projects in health, sanitation, tourism, waste-to-energy, transport and education. This includes a Time Travel Park in Lahore, a modern truck terminal in Faisalabad and hostels at twenty-nine universities.
Punjab Minister for Information and Culture Azma Bokhari reacted to a statement by PTI's Muzammil Aslam, saying his level of understanding could be gauged from his lack of knowledge about provincial roads. Azma Bokhari said Punjab has 80,000 kilometres of its own provincial roads, with 50,000 kilometres already constructed under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
Azma Bokhari criticized Muzammil Aslam, saying he feels no shame despite his lack of knowledge. She said the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa hang onto dolis, yet Muzammil Aslam is always eager to show off his knowledge.
The road projects are expected to improve infrastructure in Punjab. The use of electronic toll plazas and private contractors will help maintain the roads and generate revenue for the province.
