Girl, 16, murdered in Johor school
Irene Sofiya Khairoul Faisal died from blunt trauma to the head, police say. Three 16-year-old male students have been arrested in connection with her murder.

Irene Sofiya Khairoul Faisal, a 16-year-old Form 4 student, was found dead in a school hall in Yong Peng, Johor, on Saturday evening. Her grandmother found her body after she did not return home from a tuition class.
Police said Irene died from blunt trauma to the head, according to an autopsy report. Bukit Aman CID chief M Kumar said the police will ensure a holistic and transparent investigation into the incident.
Three 16-year-old male students were arrested to assist in the murder probe, and one of them has been remanded for six days until October 9. The police are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek denied online claims surrounding the case, including allegations that the girl was dragged from a surau to the school hall. Fadhlina urged the public to exercise caution before sharing unverified information.
Irene's father, Mohd Khairool Faisal, appealed to the public not to spread inaccurate information and said the family was leaving the investigation to the police. He last saw Irene about two weeks ago and said she looked cheerful and happy to be studying.
The education ministry will cooperate fully with the investigation and will investigate matters including school security, CCTV coverage, and discipline. The school in question has not been named.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim ordered the relevant authorities to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation into the incident. He conveyed his condolences to the victim's family and stressed that strict legal action must be taken if any criminal element is uncovered.
