The Springbok Women ended their European tour on a high note with a 20-0 win over Spain in Seville on Sunday. The team played in hot and humid conditions at the Estadio Olimpico de la Cartuja and maintained control from start to finish.

Despite tough weather conditions and injuries, the team held firm, keeping a clean sheet against a fast-paced Spanish side. The scoring opened 14 minutes into the match when Catha Jacobs finished off an attacking move that started with a powerful run from Aseza Hele.

Jakkie Cilliers added the extras and also slotted a penalty. The team scored three tries in total, with Aseza Hele and Jakkie Cilliers also crossing the line. The Springbok Women arrived in Spain with confidence after beating Italy 41-29 in Pordenone.

Franzel September, who shares the head coaching responsibilities with Laurian Johannes-Haupt, said it was a productive day in many aspects of their play. The team did leave some tries out there, but to finish the tour with such a commanding win was great for them.

The coaching staff were particularly happy with the way they managed to kill the flow of the Spanish team. They wanted to disrupt their attack to make sure they can’t get going and the fact that they could not score tells you how successful that was.

The Springbok Women will now return to South Africa and start focusing on their two matches against Ireland in Cape Town later this month. The team will also assess the injuries to their front row, with Babalwa Latsha injuring her ankle and Nombuyekezo Mdliki leaving the field on a stretcher.

The Springbok Women's victory over Spain was their seventh successive win over the Spaniards. The team's scrum was solid and grew in confidence as the game progressed, and although their lineout blew hot and cold, they managed to steal some possession from their hosts.
