David Gozho, also known as Madzibaba David, was arrested in Goromonzi on Sunday. He is expected to appear before a regional court in Marondera on Monday.
The audio recording, whose authenticity has been established, features Chivayo thanking Gozho for giving him charms that helped him gain favour with President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Chivayo also promised Gozho a vehicle once his business interests began yielding returns, a pledge he later fulfilled with a brand new Toyota Fortuner and a bus.
In the recording, Chivayo asked Gozho about his availability to perform a final ritual at Lake Kariba, involving submerging a clay pot containing ritual objects into the lake.
The timing of Gozho's arrest has raised questions about whether it is connected to his dealings with Chivayo, who had deep ties to Zimbabwe's political and business elite.
Chivayo's death in a helicopter crash near Marondera last Wednesday sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many Zimbabweans questioning the circumstances surrounding his death.
