Cats Secure Jordan Ridley
Geelong trades for Essendon defender, sends Jack Bowes to Bombers. Ridley brings experience to Cats' backline group.
Geelong has confirmed its first trade of the 2026 Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period, securing defender Jordan Ridley from Essendon. The Cats sent a future first-round pick, a future second-round pick, and Jack Bowes to Essendon in exchange for Ridley, Pick 60, and a future fourth-round pick.
Ridley, who commenced his AFL journey in 2016, has played 109 games for Essendon. He had a breakout year in 2020, finishing third in the AFL for intercept marks and earning selection in the initial All Australian squad.
Geelong Executive General Manager of Football Andrew Mackie said Ridley would be a valuable addition to the Club’s playing squad. Mackie stated that Ridley is a quality player who boasts experience and will be a great addition to the backline group.
As the Cats welcome Ridley, Geelong farewells midfielder Jack Bowes after four seasons. Bowes departs having played 69 AFL games for the Club, including the 2025 Grand Final.
Essendon has secured experienced midfielder Jack Bowes in the trade. Bowes arrives at the NEC Hangar with 152 games of AFL experience, adding experience and versatility to the Bombers’ midfield mix.
Bowes said he is pumped to be joining Essendon and is looking forward to getting started. He added that he loves to compete, is a great teammate, and has solid experience to help the younger players.
Essendon list manager Matt Rosa said Jack has played 152 games, been part of two deep finals campaigns with Geelong, and played in a Grand Final. Rosa stated that Bowes gives the Bombers another experienced body through the midfield to support the young group.
The trade period is ongoing, with several other deals expected to be completed in the coming days.
