Laotian authorities seized 521kg of methamphetamine from a private jet on October 1, according to Hussein Omar Khan, director of the Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department.

The chartered aircraft departed from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang to Luang Prabang without carrying any cargo, Khan said.

The flight carried a Singaporean pilot, a Malaysian co-pilot, and a Filipino passenger. After arriving at Luang Prabang International Airport, 23 bags were loaded onto the aircraft.

An inspection of the bags uncovered 500 packages of drugs suspected to be methamphetamine weighing 521kg. The drugs were meant for the Manila market in the Philippines, not Malaysia.

Thirteen people were arrested, including the three crew members and 10 Laotian nationals. The suspects are currently held in custody for further investigation.

The Royal Malaysia Police will send officers to Laos to investigate any syndicate links in Malaysia. The operation was carried out after Laotian authorities received a tip-off about a drug trafficking syndicate.

The private aircraft and a pickup truck were seized as evidence. The Laotian authorities acted on the tip-off and caught the suspects red-handed.
