The Philippines government has introduced a 30-day visa-free entry scheme for citizens of 46 African countries as part of its efforts to promote tourism and business travel.
Nigeria is not included in the scheme, which allows citizens of eligible countries to enter the Philippines with a valid passport and a return or onward ticket.
The eligible countries include South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Angola, Morocco, Rwanda, Senegal, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Liberia.
Citizens of the eligible countries can apply for an additional 29 days, allowing them to stay in the Philippines for up to 59 days in total.
Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay said the government wants to show that the Philippines is open and accessible to tourists and investors.
The Nigerian passport has been ranked 167th on the Global Passport Index, with limited travel options for its citizens.
The Philippines' visa-free policy covers 157 countries, but citizens of Nigeria and other ineligible countries require a visa to travel to the Philippines.

Three perspectives
Neutral
The Philippines' visa-free policy aims to promote tourism and business travel, but its exclusion of certain countries may affect travel plans for their citizens. The policy's impact on tourism and investment will be closely watched. The development may also lead to a review of the visa requirements for the excluded countries.
Positive
The visa-free policy is a significant step towards promoting tourism and business travel in the Philippines, and the inclusion of 46 African countries is a positive development for citizens of those countries. The policy may lead to increased economic cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between the Philippines and the eligible countries.
Negative
The exclusion of Nigeria and other countries from the visa-free policy may be seen as discriminatory and could affect the travel plans of their citizens. The limited travel options for Nigerian citizens may also be a concern, given the country's low ranking on the Global Passport Index.
