Khan Associate Killed
A relative of fired deputy Crime Intelligence boss Feroz Khan was shot dead on the R21 near OR Tambo International Airport. The motive for the shooting is unknown and no arrests have been made.
Gauteng police have launched a murder investigation after a shooting on the R21 left one person dead and another injured. The incident occurred on Monday evening when a Fiat broke down and the driver called for assistance.
Police said the driver, Preggy Padayachee, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a jersey barrier after shots were fired at the group. Padayachee, who is Khan's uncle-in-law, sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene.
One passenger was wounded in the attack and taken to hospital, while a third occupant escaped unharmed. The police are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.
The shooting comes as Khan is due to testify before the Madlanga Commission on Tuesday. Khan's evidence is expected to be heard behind closed doors, but police have not indicated that his appearance before the commission is linked to the shooting.
Khan has been ordered to give evidence before the commission, but his lawyers are disputing the terms of the subpoena. The commission is investigating allegations of corruption and misconduct within the Crime Intelligence division.
In June, Padayachee called for justice after Khan was attacked near his home in Houghton. Khan had been scheduled to testify before the commission at the time, but failed to appear due to health reasons.
The police are investigating the shooting and have not released any information about potential suspects or motives. The Madlanga Commission is expected to continue its hearings on Tuesday, with Khan's testimony scheduled to be heard in private.
