Police in Limpopo have opened an inquest after the body of a 22-year-old woman was found partially clothed near the fence of the University of Limpopo campus in Mankweng on Sunday morning.
The woman's body was discovered along Sovenga Street at about 6am with her head positioned inside a trench adjacent to the campus fence, said police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba.
Police were on patrol duties when they received information about a female victim found lying motionless along the campus fence and rushed to the scene.
The body was inspected, and no visible external injuries were observed at the scene. A bag containing the deceased's identity document and NSFAS card was found next to the body.
Emergency medical services personnel were called to the scene and declared the woman dead. Police said preliminary information suggested she may have fallen into the trench, but the circumstances surrounding her death were still being investigated.
The woman's identity has not yet been made public and will be released after her family has been informed. Police have opened an inquest, and investigations are continuing, said Mashaba.
