Airlink's inaugural non-stop flight from Cape Town to Mauritius took off, marking the launch of the airline's first-ever route to the island nation. The new service runs twice a week, giving travellers in Cape Town and surrounding areas another option to reach Mauritius.

According to Airlink CEO de Villiers Engelbrecht, the airline's new flagship aircraft, the E195-E2, made the route possible. Engelbrecht said the route is an important addition to Airlink's network and strengthens the connection between the two important tourism and business markets.

The timing and flight schedule have been designed with both holidaymakers and business travellers in mind, allowing for more usable holiday time and easier itineraries. Mauritius is a major destination for international visitors, known for its tropical coastline, luxury resorts, and multicultural heritage.

In 2025, more than 1.4 million people visited Mauritius, with South Africa ranking among its biggest source markets. The relationship between the two countries is also significant on the business side, with over 140 South African companies operating in Mauritius across various sectors.

Airlink's E195-E2 aircraft can accommodate 124 passengers, including 12 seats in the airline's staggered Business Class configuration. Economy passengers have a two-by-two seating arrangement, with no middle seats, and every passenger gets either a window or an aisle seat.

The aircraft also offers generous legroom, large eye-level windows, overhead storage, and power outlets. Passengers receive complimentary meals and beverages.

The new direct route is expected to boost tourism and business travel between Cape Town and Mauritius. With its convenient schedule and modern aircraft, Airlink's new service is set to provide a comfortable and efficient travel experience for passengers.
