A 40-year-old South Carolina man is facing multiple charges after a crash west of Foam Lake that killed a woman and two children. The man was in Saskatchewan on a hunting trip at the time of the crash.
Saskatchewan RCMP say officers responded to a collision on a grid road about nine kilometres west of Foam Lake shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Friday. A truck was attempting to pass a semi when it collided with an SUV.
A 40-year-old woman, an eight-year-old girl and a five-year-old girl from Foam Lake, who were all occupants of the SUV, were pronounced dead at the scene by EMS. A man who was also in the SUV was taken to hospital by STARS with serious injuries.
The truck driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Two passengers in the truck were also injured.
A lawyer for the truck driver says the man is overwhelmed with grief. The community of Foam Lake is also grieving the loss, with many paying tribute to the family.
One family put a pair of stuffed animals and a small bunch of flowers on their front steps as a memorial, at the request of the family of those who died. Others have also paid tribute, with some placing Squishmallows outside their doors.
