The Montreal Alouettes hosted the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Saturday night, following their third and final bye week of the season. The Alouettes won 37-10, avenging their loss in Winnipeg back in Week 13.
The game was played in front of a sellout crowd, the first of the season, as the Alouettes celebrated their 80th anniversary. Several big names in franchise history attended, including Mike Pringle, Ben Cahoon, and Jamel Richardson.
Tyson Philpot had a historic night, breaking multiple CFL records for a Canadian receiver. He became the Alouettes' all-time single-season receptions leader, surpassing Ben Cahoon and Jamel Richardson. Philpot also broke Terry Evanshen's record for the most receiving yards by a Canadian player in a CFL season.
Philpot finished the game with 11 catches for 207 yards. He passed Brad Sinopoli for the most single-season receptions by a Canadian receiver in CFL history, with 117 catches.
Davis Alexander completed 30-of-40 passes for 440 yards and a touchdown, leading the Alouettes to their win. Alexander acknowledged that he let his emotions get the best of him in the previous meeting between the two teams.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers were left reeling after the loss, with a 7-8 record and in danger of missing the playoffs. Quarterback Dru Brown said the team should be frustrated, as they are not showing their full potential.
The Blue Bombers' next game is against the Calgary Stampeders, which could decide their fate. Brown is 2-4 as a starter this season, and the offence has been mostly vanilla with him at the helm.
