Indian defence technology company MKU Limited is establishing a manufacturing facility in Morocco's SGZID Zone in Nouasser. The facility will produce electro-optic equipment and ballistic protection products, including body armour, ballistic helmets, and shields.

The proposed facility will serve as an export base for African customers and strengthen Morocco's defence industrial ecosystem. MKU has been supplying optronics and personal protection equipment to Morocco's armed forces for five years.

Karan Gupta, Vice President, International Sales, MKU Limited, said the factory will be a cornerstone of the company's international growth strategy. The investment value, production capacity, and opening timetable remain undisclosed.

The facility will draw on two MKU product divisions: Netro Optronics, which develops electro-optic systems for surveillance, reconnaissance, and target acquisition, and Kavro Protection, which supplies protective equipment for personnel and armour solutions for military platforms.

Manufacturing closer to customers could improve delivery times and make maintenance and technical support easier to organise. The company plans to provide support closer to its Moroccan customers.

Morocco has been positioning itself as an industrial gateway between Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. The country has been developing its defence manufacturing base, capable of supplying its own forces and attracting overseas customers.

The move comes amid strengthening India-Morocco defence ties, including a defence cooperation agreement. Indian defence companies are expanding their manufacturing footprint overseas, with Morocco emerging as a destination for this push.
