Fuseini Yakubu Abanga has won the National Youth Organiser position in the New Patriotic Party's national executive polls. He secured 1,550 votes, beating four other contestants.

Alfred Ababio Kumi, also known as Adenta Kumi, polled 25 votes and accepted defeat, congratulating Abanga and the other successful aspirants.

Abanga's twin brother, Alhassan Yakubu Abanga, is the youngest National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress. Despite their different party affiliations, the twins have a cordial relationship.

Abanga was born in Boinsu, Enchi, in the Western North Region, to peasant farmers. He has lived in several regions, including the Western, Bono, Central, Upper East, and Greater Accra regions.

Abanga began his education at the Boinsu King of Kings Preparatory and Junior High School and later attended the University of Ghana, where he studied Political Science and Archaeology.

At the university, Abanga was a Representative of Jubilee Hall and contested for the position of TESCON Organiser, which he won. He also met with the then NPP National Organiser, John Boadu, who mentored him.

Abanga's victory in the NPP national executive polls was announced at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on October 3, 2026.

Adenta Kumi said the election had taught him that popularity, sacrifice, and hard work alone were not enough to win, and that resources, organisation, strategy, and preparation also play a crucial role.

Three perspectives

Neutral

The election outcome reflects the preferences of NPP delegates. The Abanga twins' relationship is an interesting aspect of Ghanaian politics. The NPP will likely continue to shape its youth engagement strategy with Abanga at the helm.

Positive

Abanga's victory is a testament to his mobilisation skills and popularity among NPP delegates. His experience in organising demonstrations and his education in Political Science and Archaeology will likely serve him well in his new role.

Negative

Adenta Kumi's defeat may indicate that his campaign strategy was ineffective. The significant margin of Abanga's victory may also suggest that the NPP delegates had a clear preference for his leadership style.
