Fatuma Ali Joins PSC
Former Wajir woman representative approved as non-MP commissioner, replacing Rachel Ameso
The National Assembly has approved Fatuma Ibrahim Ali as a non-MP commissioner of the Parliamentary Service Commission. She will replace Rachel Ameso, whose term has ended.
Ali, a former East African Legislative Assembly member, was selected from a pool of 75 applicants. The Parliamentary Service Commission shortlisted 12 candidates for interviews, with Ali emerging as the top candidate.
The recruitment process involved assessment of academic and professional qualifications, parliamentary experience, leadership skills, and integrity. PSC Commissioner Patrick Makau said the commission was satisfied that Ali possessed the required personal qualities to serve as a commissioner.
The position was advertised in August, and the recruitment process included public participation and background verification of shortlisted candidates by relevant State agencies.
Ali is a close ally of former ODM leader Raila Odinga and current party leader Oburu Oginga. Her appointment puts her in a key body overseeing the administration of Parliament.
The Senate had also approved her nomination, completing the required parliamentary process. Ali will serve as one of two commissioners drawn from outside Parliament, as provided for under Article 127(2)(d) of the Constitution.
Makau said Ali displayed personal attributes, including integrity, accountability, communication, and interpersonal skills, during the interview process.
