England coach Thomas Tuchel has defended his handling of Alex Scott's injury, saying the national team took no risk with the player's fitness. Scott played 70 minutes in England's 7-0 win over Croatia on Saturday despite feeling discomfort before the match.

The 23-year-old midfielder has now withdrawn from the England squad and is set to miss six to eight weeks with a quadriceps issue. Tuchel described the injury as 'a strange one', saying Scott had trained in full before the Croatia match and had done extra work after training sessions.

Tuchel said Scott had not felt injured before or after the match, and that the player had said he could have played 90 minutes. However, Bournemouth are unhappy with the way England handled Scott's injury, given that they knew he was nursing a thigh issue.

Scott's injury is a blow to Bournemouth, who are looking for their first Premier League win and are also competing in the Europa League. The team will play nine games between October 10 and November 8, including matches against Sturm Graz and AC Milan.

Arsenal defender Ezri Konsa has also been ruled out of England's match against the Czech Republic as a precautionary measure, with the 28-year-old to return to the Premier League champions for treatment on an injury.

Tuchel said Konsa's issues were 'nothing major but not worth the risk taking', after the centre-back first missed the match with the Czech Republic in Prague on September 29 and then sustained an injury against Croatia.

Scott's determination to represent his country was underlined by his decision to stay with the squad after the recent death of his grandfather. The former Bristol City midfielder made his debut when he came on during England's win over Czechia in Prague last week.
