Cambodia, Laos Strengthen Ties

The ruling parties of Cambodia and Laos agreed to strengthen traditional friendship and foster youth engagement along the border, building on their seven-decade relationship. The agreement was made during a meeting between Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thongly Sisoulith in Phnom Penh.

Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thongly Sisoulith, Member of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, met at the CPP headquarters in Phnom Penh on October 6.

Hun Manet congratulated Sisoulith on his election as general secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Youth Union for the term 2026-2030.

Both leaders commended the relationship between Cambodia and Laos since 1956 and the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership since 2019.

They agreed to strengthen the relationship through regular meetings, continued support and assistance for one another in human resource and young leadership trainings, and fostering and sharing of experience on youth research and development.

Hun Manet and Sisoulith called for youth cooperation along their border to create beneficial programs for peace and friendship.

Hun Manet expressed his condolences to Laos for the departure of the late Xaysomphone Phomvihane, a member of the Politburo of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee and President of the Lao National Assembly.

The meeting took place during Sisoulith's official visit to Cambodia from October 5 to 8.
