Liverpool U21s made three changes to their starting line-up for the EFL Trophy match against Doncaster Rovers, with Alvin Ayman, Joe Upton, and Josh Sonni-Lambie coming in. The match kicked off at 7pm BST and was televised live on Sky Sports in the UK.

The only goal of the game was scored by Tommi O'Reilly in added time at the end of the first half, after Harvey Davies made a fine save to deny Doncaster skipper Owen Bailey. The rebound fell to O'Reilly, who converted the chance.

Liverpool had earlier come close to opening the scoring, with Will Wright's outrageous attempt from 35 yards striking the underside of the crossbar. Doncaster goalkeeper Josh Clarke made a fine double save to deny both Wright and Joe Bradshaw shortly after half-time.

Despite dominating the second half, Liverpool were unable to find an equaliser. The defeat means they have slipped to third in the Group B table and need a positive result at leaders Huddersfield Town next month to stay in the competition.

Rob Page's side had started the match strongly, with Wright and Bradshaw both posing a threat to the Doncaster goal. However, they were unable to capitalise on their chances and ultimately fell to a narrow defeat.

The Liverpool players' performances were mixed, with some impressing despite the defeat. Luke Chambers and Will Wright were among those who caught the eye, with Chambers confident and composed in the heart of the defence and Wright involved throughout the match.

The defeat will be a disappointment for Liverpool, but they will look to bounce back in their next match. They will need to improve their finishing if they are to progress in the competition.
