US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Icelandic Prime Minister Kristrun Frostadóttir in Reykjavik on Monday. The two officials explored new opportunities for US-Iceland economic collaboration, including increasing Iceland's electricity output and deepening technology cooperation.

Rubio and Frostadóttir also discussed Iceland's inaugural defense and security policy and reaffirmed the strength of the bilateral defense partnership. The meeting was part of Rubio's four-day European tour, which aims to boost security ties with NATO allies.

The tour comes amid growing security concerns over Russia's military activity and continued Middle East instability. Rubio will also visit Greece to lead the US delegation for the sixth US-Greece Strategic Dialogue, focusing on defense cooperation and regional and energy security.

In Portugal, Rubio will discuss defense, economic, and technology cooperation. The US recently pulled its B-1 bombers from a UK airbase due to security concerns, with President Donald Trump citing 'some threats' as the reason for the move.

A NATO military source said Iran still poses an acute threat to US assets in the UK. Rubio, however, expressed confidence in the security of all US bases and praised the cooperation of authorities in the United Kingdom.

The US Secretary of State's European tour highlights the importance of diplomacy and cooperation with NATO allies in addressing global security challenges. Rubio's meetings with Icelandic, Greek, and Portuguese officials will focus on strengthening economic and security ties.

The US-Iceland meeting also touched on potential avenues for increasing cooperation on pharmaceuticals. Rubio's tour will conclude on October 8, after visiting Greece and Portugal.
